The team is compiling a quarterly newsletter and they would like to add your story of answered prayer. Please share YOUR story and/or become a part of this exciting prayer team. Contact Betty Tolsma 659-8107 or bettytolsma@sbcglobal.net.

Building a Bigger Heaven in Texas

In our prayers this week, we’re lifting up missionary pastor Larry Wong and the ministry of Familia de Fe as they reach out to people in Houston and beyond. We support his work through the gift of 10% of our Sunday morning offerings to Texas Partners in Mission (TPIM). To find out more about TPIM visit www.txdistlcms.org/tpim.

Disaster Relief

People are suffering in the wake of four recent disasters in Asia, including the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Indonesia September 30, originating off Sumatra and killing more than 700, with the death toll expected to rise. That tragedy is the latest in a string of disasters, including a tsunami in Samoa, flooding in the Philippines, and a typhoon in Taiwan. “LCMS World Relief and Human Care is actively engaged in assessing needs and providing assistance by working directly with our partner churches, LCMS World Mission, and the Pacific Southwest and California-Nevada-Hawaii districts,” said Rev. Glenn F. Merritt, director of Disaster Response. Your tax deductible contributions can assist families in need in these areas. Make your check payable to Word of Life and write LCMS World Relief in the memo line or use one of the Disaster Relief envelopes available at worship this Sunday.

Hire a Youth Fundraiser

Help our youth attend the national LCMS National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer. Here are several ways you can help:

  • “Hire a youth” to help with projects around your home. They are available for everything from babysitting to painting.

  • Purchase terrific Gardenville fertilizer from our youth. The special fall mix is just $20/bag delivered to your door. Pay just $35/bag, and the youth will spread the fertilizer for you.

  • Order live greenery for the holidays for you or your family. The youth are taking orders for a variety of wreaths, sprays and centerpieces. Great prices for delivery to your home or direct shipment to family across the country.

To order your fertilizer or greenery or to schedule youth workers, speak to a youth group member or call Mark Stemmermann, 508-2073.

Strength Funny

The strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special target of one of the older workmen. After several minutes, the older worker had enough. "Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" he said. "I will bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won't be able to wheel back." "You're on, old man," the braggart replied. "Let's see what you got." The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, "All right. Get in."

Just a Thought
