We're building a bigger heaven and better lives!

Foundation for Life

On what will I build my life? This is a basic question for our graduates, for us all. Which foundation not only solidly supports its structure but actively builds a better life upon itself? Join us as we honor our High School graduates this Sunday, June 27, 10:45 a.m. at 101 Pecan Drive, Schertz. [map and directions]

Building a Bigger Heaven in Brazil

In our prayers this week, we’re lifting up missionary pastor Fabiano Müller and the people of Redentor, as they reach out to people in Campinas, Brazil and beyond. We support this work through the gift of 10% of our Sunday morning offerings to Brazil Mission Society.

Jubilee Community Outreach

Each year the Schertz community gathers for a multi-day celebration around July 4th. This is a great opportunity for Word of Life to reach out to our community and touch the lives of our friends and neighbors. Here’s how we’re going to do that this year:

Parade
This year’s parade will be held on Saturday, July 3. Our dedicated float design/build team put together a trophy winning entry for last year’s parade. This year marks the return of the Word of Life “Drill Team.” (Basically, a marching group who walks with drills.) When the drill team made it debut several years ago, it was great fun to watch the dawn of understanding come on the faces of the crowd as they saw our drills and sign. We need volunteers to march with a drill in the parade.

Flags
To decorate your neighborhood and also spread the word about Word of Life, American flags are available this Sunday, June 27 to “plant” in your neighborhood. Pick up a supply of flags and share them with your neighbors. Volunteers are needed to help plant any remaining flags in the Saddle Creek Ranch subdivision. We’ll meet at the Weissmann's, 108 Rustic Trail, Cibolo at 7:00 p.m. to plant the flags in neighborhoods surrounding our recently purchased property.

Backyard VBS 2010

We have three families lined up to host this effort so far: The Weissmanns, Whites and Flowers. This year's theme is "Treasure Seekers" and is a an introductory study on God's attributes for children ages 2 to 12. Each session will have music, games and a Bible lesson. Word of Life will provide drinks and snacks! We’ll be holding the Backyard VBS Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to Noon, starting July 20 and ending August 17. We need volunteers (confirmation age and above) to help out. Ideally, we would like to have one adult and one teenage volunteer for every 10 children. We do not anticipate having more than 25 in a single session. If you may be able to help, please stay for a short meeting SUNDAY after worship. Questions? Call David White at 650-3166.

National LCMS Convention

Our national church body, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, will be meeting in convention in Houston, July 10—17. Representatives from across the US will vote on issues and topics which will have a profound impact on the future of our church body. In order to seek God’s guidance and direction, a national 24-hour, seven-day prayer vigil will be held during the week of the convention. To sign up as a prayer-vigil participant, go to: www.lcms.org/prayervigil and follow the sign-up instructions. The deadline to sign up is June 28.
