What We Believe
God loves all people and wants them to live in a personal relationship with him. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 (GWT) God our Savior
wants all people to be saved and to learn the truth. He offers this relationship as His free gift to us. Romans 6:23 (GWT) The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord. We can do nothing to earn or deserve it. Ephesians 2:8-9 (GWT) God saved you through faith as an act of kindness. You had nothing to do with it. Being saved is a gift from God. Its not the result of anything youve done, so no one can brag about it. We have a serious problem because we are all sinners. Romans 3:23 (NCV) All have sinned and are not good enough for Gods glory.
We are alienated from God, eternally separated from Him. Colossians 1:21 (NLT) You
were once so far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions.
We are spiritually dead and cannot change our relationship with Him. Ephesians 2:1-2 (GWT) You were once dead because of your failures and sins. You followed the ways of this present world and its spiritual ruler. This ruler continues to work in people who refuse to obey God.
God demands perfection. Leviticus 19:2 (NCV) I am the LORD your God. You must be holy because I am holy.
God is just and must punish sin. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 (NCV) Then he will punish those who do not know God and who do not obey the Good News about our Lord Jesus Christ. Those people will be punished with a destruction that continues forever. They will be kept away from the Lord and from his great power.
God is loving and wants all people to come back to Him. 2 Peter 3:9 (GWT) The Lord isnt slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesnt want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.
God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to earth for us. John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice on a cross. Romans 5:6-8 (NCV) When we were unable to help ourselves, at the moment of our need, Christ died for us, although we were living against God. Very few people will die to save the life of someone else. Although perhaps for a good person someone might possibly die. But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.
Jesus rose from the dead to offer us restored relationship with God. Romans 4:25 (GWT) Jesus, our Lord, was handed over to death because of our failures and was brought back to life so that we could receive Gods approval.
The Holy Spirit uses God's Word and Baptism to bring us back to God. Titus 3:4-7 (GWT) However, when God our Savior made his kindness and love for humanity appear, he saved us, but not because of anything we had done to gain his approval. Instead, because of his mercy he saved us through the washing in which the Holy Spirit gives us new birth and renewal. God poured a generous amount of the Spirit on us through Jesus Christ our Savior. As a result, God in his kindness has given us his approval and we have become heirs who have the confidence that we have everlasting life.
The Spirit gives us the ability to know what God has done for us. 1 Corinthians 2:12 (NLT) And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the worlds spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
The Spirit alone gives us the ability to trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. 1 Corinthians 12:3 (NIV) No one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit gathers those who trust in Christ into the community of a congregation. Acts 2:46-47 (GWT) The believers had a single purpose and went to the temple every day. They were joyful and humble as they ate at each others homes and shared their food. At the same time, they praised God and had the good will of all the people. Every day the Lord saved people, and they were added to the group.
The Spirit gives every believer at least one gift to be used to serve others. 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT) A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church.
The Spirit transforms them as He leads and shapes them through His Word, sharing with one another, Holy Communion and prayer. Acts 2:42 (NLT) They joined with the other believers and devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, sharing in the Lords Supper and in prayer.
The Spirit empowers and equips all Christians that together they may change the world. Acts 1:8 (NLT) But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywherein Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
