All humans are conflicted at times. It’s natural for us to want to create an environment for ourselves that is free from conflict, where everything makes sense and has a rational explanation. Even the wisest of us make an attempt at this. But the wisest people know – as Socrates is credited saying – the only thing of which we can be certain is that nothing is certain.
The good news is that the Gospel liberates us from living in a fantasy world – destroying ourselves and demanding that others bend to our sense of what is proper and congruent – by promising a life of deep meaning that will culminate in total peace in God’s presence.
