Giving Gifts

The wise men started it. God perfected it. Discover from the masters the secret of giving great gifts.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea when Herod was king. After Jesus’ birth wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is the one who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star rising and have come to worship him.” When King Herod and all Jerusalem heard about this, they became disturbed. He called together all the chief priests and scribes and tried to find out from them where the Messiah was supposed to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem in Judea. The prophet wrote about this: Bethlehem in the land of Judah, you are by no means least among the leaders of Judah. A leader will come from you. He will shepherd my people Israel.” Then Herod secretly called the wise men and found out from them exactly when the star had appeared. As he sent them to Bethlehem, he said, “Go and search carefully for the child. When you have found him, report to me so that I may go and worship him too.” After they had heard the king, they started out. The star they had seen rising led them until it stopped over the place where the child was. They were overwhelmed with joy to see the star. When they entered the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary. So they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. God warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod. So they left for their country by another road. Matthew 2:1-12 (GW)

The Cross, The Throne

There is a King who doesn’t seize power but gives Himself away.

Today is Christ the King Sunday – the last Sunday in the traditional Church Year – and we don’t end the year in triumphal gold but at the foot of a cross, where the true throne stands and where the kingdom of God breaks into the world with a wounded whisper. In Colossians and Luke, we see the cosmic Christ holding all things together even as creation trembles at His death, and we meet a dying King whose first royal act is to welcome a broken thief into paradise. This is kingship the world can’t imitate: suffering love that rescues, restores, and remakes.

This Sunday’s sermon uncovers the breathtaking paradox of Christ’s reign – how the One who spoke galaxies into existence rules from a criminal’s cross, reconciling all things by His own blood. The year closes with a call to look again at the King who turns His bruised face toward sinners and says, “You are Mine… and you will be with Me.” Come and see the kingdom revealed in its truest glory, and hear the promise spoken for you.

The Scorching, Healing Day

When the world burns, God is not absent//The same fire that consumes also purifies

Malachi saw a day of blazing judgment//Jesus stood in that fire for us, and turned it into light

Every ending, every collapse, every shaking is not the wrath of a distant God, but the refining love of the Crucified One. The Day that burns is also the Day that heals – and the Sun of righteousness has already risen with healing in His wings. The rapture isn’t coming. There is nothing to fear. So lift your eyes. Your redemption – your Redeemer – is approaching.
