On Fire!
The church at Pentecost was on fire with inspiration and power – one day fluke? No way! Be set on fire and watch the Pentecost miracle continue in the lives of those around us and throughout the world!
The disciples were devoted to the teachings of the apostles, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. The believers had a single purpose and went to the temple every day. They were joyful and humble as they ate at each other’s homes and shared their food. At the same time, they praised God and had the good will of all the people. Promise: Real vs. Counterfeit
All humans are conflicted at times. It’s natural for us to want to create an environment for ourselves that is free from conflict, where everything makes sense and has a rational explanation. Even the wisest of us make an attempt at this. But the wisest people know – as Socrates is credited saying – the only thing of which we can be certain is that nothing is certain.
The good news is that the Gospel liberates us from living in a fantasy world – destroying ourselves and demanding that others bend to our sense of what is proper and congruent – by promising a life of deep meaning that will culminate in total peace in God’s presence.
