Should I receive the Lord’s Supper?

Holy Communion is given by God as a means of grace for the forgiveness of sins. We highly regard this gift as Christ instituted it. We invite you to receive the Lord’s Supper if you agree with the following statements drawn from Scripture:
I have been baptized in the name of the Triune God and am able to examine myself as instructed by Scripture.
Every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup, you tell about the Lord’s death until he comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks from the Lord’s cup in an improper way will be held responsible for the Lord’s body and blood. With this in mind, individuals must
determine whether what they are doing is proper when they eat the bread and drink from the cup. Anyone who eats and drinks is eating and drinking a judgment against himself when he doesn’t recognize the Lord’s body. This is the reason why many of you are weak and sick and quite a number of you have died. If we were judging ourselves correctly, we would not be judged. But when the Lord judges us, he disciplines us so that we won’t be condemned along with the rest of the world.
1 Corinthians 11:26-32 (GW)
Since we want people to receive the Lord’s Supper for their benefit and not as a judgment, we ask children not to commune until they have received instruction. This instruction is usually offered to 7th and 8th graders. Instruction is also available to adults.
Please let a pastor know if you desire baptism or instruction.
I believe I am a sinner, and by God’s grace I turn away from my sins and toward Jesus.
Whoever covers over his sins does not prosper. Whoever confesses and abandons them receives compassion. Proverbs 28:13 (GW)
All of us sin. Those who admit their sin and believe in Christ’s promises receive forgiveness.
I believe in Jesus as my Savior and Lord.
No one can please God without faith. Whoever goes to God must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (GW)
The power of the Lord’s Supper lies completely in God’s loving favor in sending His Son Jesus. He gave his life on a cross, his body broken and bleeding. His sacrificial death and his glorious resurrection, connected with the Lord’s Supper by His Word, gives forgiveness and life.
I believe that in the physical elements of bread and wine Christ offers the real presence of His body and blood for the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Matthew 26:26-28 (NIV)
We receive four elements in the Lord’s Supper: bread, wine, body and blood. Jesus is really present in His Supper. Through this special presence, He forgives sins.
I am ready to be united with Word of Life Church through the body and blood of Christ.
We give thanks for the cup of blessing, which is a sharing in the blood of Christ. And the bread that we break is a sharing in the body of Christ. Because there is one loaf of bread, we who are many are one body, because we all share that one loaf.
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 (NCV)
The word translated “sharing” from the original Greek, koinonia, means: most intimate relationship, communion, union with one
another. It was used most often to describe husband and wife relationships. When you receive communion, you are intimately joined together, not only with Christ but with the people, teachings and actions of that congregation.
I intend with the help of the Holy Spirit to change my sinful ways and live a more Christ-like, godly life, trusting in God’s promises and obeying His commands.
You were taught to change the way you were living. The person you used to be will ruin you through desires that deceive you. However, you were taught to have a new attitude. You were also taught to become a new person created to be like God, truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:22-24 (GW)
After receiving such a powerful gift, we cannot remain the same. The Holy Spirit comes to us and helps us live to be more like Christ Jesus.
