The Disciple’s Heart

  • Our emotionality is challenged by the story of Adam and Eve, highlighted by the quarrel between God’s perfect will and Satan’s exploitation of emotions.
  • The ability to feel emotions is what makes us human, but it also makes us vulnerable to temptation
  • Perfect humanity and the heart of a disciple go beyond the extremes of emotional suppression or excess.
  • Neither ignoring emotions nor being overly emotional is the Biblical approach.
  • God’s Word acknowledges and validates emotions, but warns of their potential deceitfulness.
