The Cost of Following
Many of us want the beauty of Christianity without the burden of surrender. We cling to safety nets – our careers, our reputations, our comfort – then try to follow Jesus on our terms. But in Luke 14, Jesus shocks the crowds: discipleship is not optional, not selective, not “half in, half out.” The cost is everything. Yet here’s the Gospel: while the cost is everything, the reward is infinitely greater – Christ Himself. And the price has already been paid by Him on the cross. This Sunday we’ll ask: Where are we clinging to safety nets instead of Christ? And as a church, are we encouraging comfortable Christianity, or calling one another into true discipleship?
